Man Utd hero Phil Neville: Fernandes? Whoever said that is a DISGRACE

Former Manchester United fullback Phil Neville believes there are no issues with Bruno Fernandes as captain.

Neville was asked about criticism Fernandes has received from many ex-United players about his leadership qualities and petulance on the field.

However, Neville believes Fernandes is similar to Roy Keane, the legendary United captain Neville played under.

Neville, who is the new head coach of MLS side Portland Timbers, said on NBC: "I think that's ridiculous talk [Fernandes getting a yellow card on purpose against Bournemouth to avoid playing Liverpool at the weekend], whoever said that in public is a disgrace.

“If you look at Bruno Fernandes, I love Bruno Fernandes, he cares about Manchester United.

"Look at the teams in the top six, that's the one player I'd take. Look at the one player who comes out after a defeat - it's Bruno Fernandes. Captains over the years have played like Bruno Fernandes.

“Roy Keane whinged and whined like Bruno Fernandes. In this team, he's the best player, he plays right wing, center midfield and he just gets on with it because he cares about the club."
