Manchester United have gone cold on Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane.

Don Balon says United manager Jose Mourinho has retained a long-term interest in the France international.

However, it's emerged United representatives have pulled back from talks with Varane's camp.

Mourinho has decided against pursuing the centre-half over his injury problems.

It was Mourinho who convinced Varane to sign for Real ahead of United, despite the then Lens defender meeting with Sir Alex Ferguson.
