Man Utd frustrated in summer pursuit of PSG midfielder Gueye

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and club chiefs had hopes of signing PSG midfielder Idrissa Gueye over the summer, it has been revealed.

The Daily Mail says concerned about Nemanja Matic's form and unsure if Paul Pogba would be staying, United's recruitment negotiator Matt Judge turned to the prospect of signing Gueye as holding midfielder after West Ham's Declan Rice was priced out of the market.

Judge ascertained that 32-year-old Gueye, who has Premier League experience with Aston Villa and Everton, would move to Old Trafford with his wife as he feared PSG's glut of summer signings including Gini Wijnaldum would see him frozen out.

But after having various meetings and conversations over the Gueye deal, United felt they weren't able to make a firm offer because Matic, Pogba and Jesse Lingard all stayed at Old Trafford.

It's been a source of regret ever since and United's defence has collapsed on numerous occasions with little protection from the midfield.
