Man Utd fend off Barcelona, Atletico Madrid advances for Herrera by triggering clause

Manchester United no longer have to worry about Ander Herrera leaving the club on a free transfer.

According to the Daily Mail, the Red Devils have triggered a clause in his contract that automatically extends the deal until 2019.

Despite being named as United's Player of the Year last year, the arrival of Nemanja Matic has caused Herrera to spend a considerable amount of time on the bench this season.

Both Barcelona and Atletico Madrid have been linked with the 28-year-old midfielder.
