Former Manchester United goalkeeper Raimond van der Gouw says new signing Memphis Depay will become a fan favourite at Old Trafford.

United secured the signing of Dutch winger Depay during the latter part of last season and there has understandably been a huge buzz amongst the fans surrounding his impending arrival at the club.

Many are of the opinion that Depay will prove to be a success at United and now former Red Devils keeper van der Gouw has also moved on to back the youngster to set Old Trafford alight next season and beyond.

"Memphis can become a very good player for Manchester United," van der Gouw told the Manchester Evening News.

"He has a very good on the pitch attitude. Attitude is key and he has a very professional outlook. He wants to be successful, he wants to be the best, he wants to be the quickest and he'll work hard to become all those.

"He wants to score goals and he wants to score more but he also knows that he has to work hard defensively as well.

"He has all the potential to be a real star. In Louis van Gaal I believe he has the right manager to help him a lot. You can already see the signs of how he helped him become better when he was in his Netherlands squad. I think Manchester United fans are going to love him."
