Manchester United have been encouraged in their bid for Schalke goalkeeper Manuel Neuer.
United rival Bayern Munich insist the young shot-stopper is not on their shopping list.
Bayern's director of sport Christian Nerlinger said: "Manuel Neuer is not on out wish list.
"Even this winter we will not be making any attempt to sign him."
Schalke are said to be looking to bridge a £15million financial shortfall, and may be forced to sell their top stars in an effort to raise much-needed funds.
"We are going to arrange a programme of refinancing and savings, we need to have a look at everything," coach Felix Magath told Bild am Sonntag.
"We may need to sell a few. It is possible we may need to sell a key player, but only if we get to January and are not in a position to challenge for Europe."
