Man Utd defender Jones: Edwards comparison never a problem

Manchester United defender Phil Jones admits he didn't notice comparisons with legend Duncan Edwards early in his career.

It was claimed by Paddy Crerand in 2011 that Jones' power and build reminded Sir Bobby Charlton of Edwards, while Sir Alex Ferguson said shortly before his retirement in 2013 that Jones could end his career as one of United's greatest players of all time.

"Not really," Jones said when asked by Goal if the comparison with Edwards was difficult to deal with. "Because when I was younger I used to take a lot of things for granted, you hear that and it's great at the time but you don't dwell on it, you don't look back on it.

“It's only in time that's gone by and you look back on what people have said about you that, yeah, you do realise that it was such a good comment, maybe it did put me under a bit of pressure but at the time I don't feel like I did."
