Manchester United coach Brian McClair has hit back at Carlos Tevez's recent attack on Sir Alex Ferguson.

Tevez claimed Fergie had "made a mistake'' by leaving him on the bench as the Reds were beaten 2-1 by Barcelona in the Champions League final.

But McClair, United's Academy Director, told the Daily Star Sunday: "I hope the alleged quote that Carlos Tevez was disrespected by being named as a sub in the Champions League final was wrong.

"If it is correct, then it is very disrespectful to the players who were not selected at all.''
