Man Utd co-owner Ratcliffe explains expanding Old Trafford matchday plans

Manchester United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe has revealed plans for expanding the matchday experience at Old Trafford.

As the debate rages over either renovating Old Trafford or building a new stadium, Ratcliffe explained his plans on the GT Playing podcast.

“I think Manchester United is the biggest sports brand in the world, so it has to have a stadium in line with the club and the brand. It may have been like that 20 years ago, but it's not like that today," he said.

“If you look at what Real Madrid are doing at the (Santiago) Bernabau and Barcelona at the Camp Nou, and then take a look at the Premier League, we have nothing comparable.

“The future of football is not going to be going to the game, leaving and going home. People have to leave early because the transportation system can't cope, because there is nothing else to do. The future is to offer more entertainment and keep fans there longer.

“If you get people to stay there for a couple of hours, instead of spending £2 on some food, it's good for us.

“The fans can have a better time and we can buy better players."
