Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney could be out of the EFL Cup final due to injury.

Rooney missed out of yesterday's FA Cup win at Blackburn.

Next up for United is their Europa League clash with Saint-Etienne followed by the EFL Cup final against Southampton on Sunday.

“De Gea was rested [against Blackburn]," manager Jose Mourinho said. “Rooney is injured. Jones is injured.

“I don't think they will recover [to face Saint-Etienne on Wednesday].

“Valencia was rested but Rooney and Jones haven't trained with the team yet so I don't think they will be there for Wednesday."
