Manchester United need Wayne Rooney on the pitch if they're to win the title this season, it has been revealed.

United lost their fourth Premier League game of the season against City at Old Trafford, a fact not helped by one notable absentee in the Red Devils' line-up.

Rooney found himself sitting in the stands and watching yet another defeat in his absence. United's four defeats have occurred when Roo has been out.

Without Rooney this term, United have only managed to find the net nine times in 10 Premier League fixtures; an average of 0.90 a match, whereas with the England striker they have averaged 2.56 goals a game.
