Man Utd brace for new Real Madrid, Barcelona Ronaldo battle

Manchester United face a fresh Spanish threat in holding onto star man Cristiano Ronaldo. Sport says, however, it isn't Real Madrid president Ramon Calderon who is now chasing Ronaldo. Instead, it is Florentino Perez, who intends to challenge Calderon for the Real presidency, who wants Ronaldo as part of his ticket.

Perez already has Luis Figo lined up to be part of his team and also is counting on Ronaldo to help him wrest control from Calderon. It's reported that Perez, who first brought the Galacticos to Real, already has an agreement with Ronaldo's agent, Jorge Mendes.

But Perez will face competition should Ronaldo choose to move to Spain. Sandro Rosell, who intends to challenge Joan Laporta for the Barcelona presidency, also wants Ronaldo on his ticket.

Like Perez, Rosell is banking on the commitment of Ronaldo to help him win Barca's looming election in 2010.
