Man Utd boss Ten Hag: Why I wanted Malacia here

Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag is delighted with the arrival of Tyrell Malacia.

United swooped for former Feyenoord fullback Malacia last week just when he looked destined to join French side Lyon.

And boss Ten Hag is over the moon to get the Dutch international as his first signing at the club.

Explaining why he wanted him, he told United's website: “I think he's the modern left-back or full-back.

“He suits the profile [we were looking for] and most important from every full-back is that he closes the right area."

He grabbed five assists in Holland's top-flight last term - and Ten Hag is expecting him to prove to be a real threat with United also.

He added: “He can also take part in the offensive side of our game, and he can do that really well. I think he will really contribute to the team."
