Man Utd boss Ten Hag seeks to clarify Ajax comments

Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has sought to clarify comments comparing the team with his former Ajax side.

Ten Hag had claimed United could not play like his former Ajax team.

He explained today: "The explanation was wrong. I can't play like Ajax because I have different players. I came here with my philosophy of possession to combine it with Manchester United's DNA.

"Last year we saw how that was. We played good football last season. This season the philosophy is not different.

"I don't want to go for long balls, I bought Andre Onana. I want to play from the back, we tried that against Man City but when teams do a high press the long ball is an option.

"I explained in the USA [during pre-season] how we want to play. We want to play from different blocks and then go long. Rasmus Hojlund, Marcus Rashford, Antony and Scott McTominay can play passes to Christian Eriksen and our full-backs are very good at that."
