Manchester United turned down the chance to sign a former player in the summer.
The Red Devils were offered a return for Memphis Depay from Barcelona, but rejected the chance.
Per The Athletic, Depay was given serious consideration by coach Erik ten Hag and the club's board.
However, the decision ultimately was made that he was not worth pursuing.
Depay wanted a long contract to return to Old Trafford, which United could not agree to.
The Red Devils have signed Wout Weghorst on loan from Burnley until the end of the season.
