Man Utd boss Mourinho calls for Shaw contract: I want him to stay

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has declared he wants Luke Shaw tied to a new deal.

Mourinho wants Shaw to follow Marouane Fellaini's lead in signing a new contract.

He also hailed Juan Mata, Ander Herrera and Ashley Young, insisting he wants to give them fresh contracts as well.

"I hope they will stay," Mourinho told Sky Sports when asked about the futures of Shaw, Mata, Herrera and Young.

"We had a similar conversation last season about Marouane Fellaini and I was always saying, 'I hope he stays, I believe he will stay,' and I say the same thing – 'I hope they stay'."

Shaw's future at United appeared to be hanging in the balance before the 2018-19 campaign got underway but Mourinho has been very impressed by his development.

"Luke Shaw's evolution makes us believe that he is going in the right direction – I want to keep him," Mourinho confirmed.

"Juan Mata and Ander Herrera, even if they are not playing a lot or if they are not starting matches, by the character point of view and by what they represent in the modern society in football they are almost unique pieces that I also don't want to lose."
