Man Utd boss Ferguson: We will make sure youngsters learn from Cup thrashing

Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson won't dump his kids after their horror Cup show at West Ham United.

Ferguson has afforded Champions League matches to Chris Smalling, Fabio, Gabriel Obertan and Bebe this season but they were among those who suffered in the capital against West Ham.

"The defeat in the League Cup was down to inexperience really," said the United manager.

"You can't judge the team that will play tonight against the team that played in the League Cup. When we made a mistake against West Ham we didn't have the experience to carry a mistake. That was the real reason.

"4-0 is not a scoreline you associate with our club but from time to time it has happened. The young players who played that night last week, three years from now would win that match. There is absolutely no question about that.

"They didn't have the experience to carry the mistakes they made.

"It is not about writing it off and saying it was one of those days, these things happen and make excuses. We will remember it. The players will remember it much more than I will because I have seen it before.

"The interesting thing is that we have played younger players in the group stages and they have all done very well.

"But they didn't make mistakes in the European matches. But when you make mistakes, it is how you recover from that. Unfortunately, we didn't have the experience to recover."
