Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has delivered a new snub to Manchester City.
City may feel their massive spending has put them back on the radar.
But Ferguson said: "We welcome Liverpool to Old Trafford this afternoon for what I still regard as the major derby in the North.
"Some people are looking to Manchester City to provide us with a top derby. But I still look at Liverpool as the contest to savour. Look at their history and success rate.
"That's where the trophies lie. They have won more trophies than Chelsea, Arsenal and ourselves.
"And that's why today's game is the daddy of all derby matches.
"The fixture fascinates me. And even though Liverpool have problems these days, stemming from ownership issues, I am sure we will see something special once again.''
