Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has no doubts his former No2 Steve McClaren should never have taken the England job.
McClaren has now rebuilt his reputation by winning the Dutch title with unfancied FC Twente - and last week joined German side Wolfsburg on a bumper £2.5million-a-year deal.
Ferguson said: "When your country comes calling it's easy to be persuaded that you have to take it because they might not come calling again.
"But for Steve, it came too early and he should've said no."
