Man Utd boss Ferguson to bring forward plans for Everton's Rodwell

Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson is considering a move for Everton midfielder Jack Rodwell.

The Telegraph says Darren Fletcher's prolonged absence due to illness has forced Ferguson to consider whether he must move into the January transfer market, with Everton's Rodwell a potential target.

A bid of £20million would be tough to resist for the impoverished Merseyside club.

United's interest in Rodwell was strong 18 months ago, and though it cooled last season, the 20 year-old has since rediscovered his form.

However, there is certainly no appetite from Everton to sell him and manager David Moyes would be furious if he departed mid-season, especially as he has started to fulfil his potential at Goodison Park.
