Manchester United will not play Wayne Rooney injured tomorrow against Bayern Munich. The Daily Mail says Rooney could be in line for a remarkable comeback eight days after he was ruled out for up to three weeks with the ankle ligament injury he incurred towards the end of United's 2-1 quarter-final defeat.

It has raised fears that England's talisman risks aggravating the problem with two months to go until the World Cup kicks off in South Africa.

But sources close to Fabio Capello insist the England manager is confident that United will not take any chances on Rooney if there is any threat to his long-term fitness.
