Manchester City are likely to keep Sergio Aguero away from their pre-season tour to Australia this summer.

The 2014 Premier League champions will travel down under to compete in the International Champions Cup in Melbourne in July but Aguero is highly unlikely to feature according to the Manchester Evening News.

The leading scorer in England's top flight will be included for the trip to Canada and the USA later this month but won't be released for the ICC tournament as he would have just finished representing Argentina in the Copa America in Chile.

City boss Manuel Pellegrini believes it is important for Aguero to again undergo a tailored pre-season fitness programme in order to avoid soft tissue injuries.

"I think it worked because this year he didn't have any muscle problems," said the Chilean.

"He had a problem with his knee, but that is bad luck.

"I think it was important for him to have a good pre-season after the World Cup because he came a few days before we started the Community Shield and the Premier League."
