Man City 'reach agreement' on Julian Alvarez fee with River Plate

Manchester City are closing a deal for River Plate striker Julian Alvarez.

Manchester United were among clubs interested in Alvarez, but the 21-year-old has chosen a switch to the Etihad Stadium.

Italian transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reports City have reached a £15.5million (€18m) agreement with River Plate to sign their star man this month.

The Argentine striker will sign a five-year contract in east Manchester but return to River Plate on loan until July.

Alvarez's reputation has grown thanks to his impressive contributions in the final third throughout the 2021 season in South America.

He scored 24 goals and provided 15 assists in 46 games in all competitions last term and is showing signs of high potential.
