Manchester City are challenging Liverpool for Burnley striker Danny Ings.

The Sunday Express says Liverpool believed they were in pole position to snap up the England Under-21 star whose contract is up in the summer.

But now City have expressed an interest with boss Manuel Pellegrini having to maintain a British representation in his squad.

Ings has already held talks in Spain with Real Sociedad.
