Manchester City legend Dennis Tueart says Manuel Pellegrini must be successful in Europe to keep his job.
Pellegrini was named new City manager last week.
"The two things that let Roberto Mancini down were his European challenge and his man management," he told talkSPORT. "Manuel Pellegrini has those two qualities.
"He's going to have a core of quality players to work with and he's going to add some more good players in.
"He has to challenge in Europe though," he added. "The last two years have been very disappointing, they didn't get out of the group stage in the Champions League in either season and then they didn't even get into the Europa League last season [after finishing bottom].
"For a set of owners who want to be global and successful in many different areas, that will come as a huge disappointment."
