Man City in talks to sign Borussia Dortmund defender Manuel Akanji

Manchester City are pushing to sign Borussia Dortmund defender Manuel Akanji.

City manager Pep Guardiola is already facing the prospect of another month without the injured Aymeric Laporte, while Nathan Ake suffered a groin injury against Newcastle.

The Athletic says with Akanji available for a cut-price fee of around £15m, City are hoping to seize the opportunity to bolster their centre-back options.

Akanji has been at Dortmund - one of City's Champions League opponents this season in the group stage - for the last four years after joining from Basel and made 36 appearances for them last season.

However, he is into the final year of his contract at the club and it is thought that Dortmund would rather get a fee for him now than risk losing him for nothing next summer.
