Man City hero Barnes impressed by Johnson

Manchester City hero Peter Barnes was excited by winger Adam Johnson's performance in the win over Bolton Wanderers.

Former England winger Barnes reckons Johnson is a late chance for a place in Fabio Capello's World Cup squad.

"He needs games, and it will be very hard for him to get in the reckoning for this World Cup," Barnes told the Manchester Evening News.

"There are already four or five other wingers knocking on the door for England, the likes of Aaron Lennon, Shaun Wright-Phillips, and Theo Walcott, and they all have an edge in experience.

"Unless Adam rips a few trees up between now and May, scores ten goals and helps City into the top four, this tournament may have just come too soon.

"If he can build on the great start he has made, he will force Capello to have a look at him."
