Manchester City defender Manuel Akanji was denied the chance to play against Cristiano Ronaldo in the Manchester derby earlier this season.

Akanji, who is at the World Cup with Switzerland, will now face off against Ronaldo on the biggest stage of all.

Portugal and the Swiss play in the round of 16 of the World Cup on Tuesday.

Akanji said to reporters of Ronaldo: "Even though he's older now, he's an incredible goal machine.

“You can't give him any space in the penalty area.

“When he gets to the ball, the ball is usually inside. You have to be very close to him."
