Man City captain Walker defends squad depth after Chelsea draw

Manchester City's dropped points against Chelsea were not due to team selection.

That is the view of captain Kyle Walker, who spoke after the game about their winning streak ending.

City had won 11 on the bounce, but were held to a 1-1 draw by the mid-table Blues.

Asked if they missed having John Stones and Bernardo Silva in from the start, Walker replied: "No, not one bit. I think whoever's played this season, obviously, the result ain't gone the way that we wanted it to so everyone's looking for answers of why it's not gone that way, but whoever steps in, whoever plays in this team, nine times out of 10 does really well.

"We've got different players that have different strengths and different weaknesses. That's just football, everyone's not the same player in there. So whoever starts, whoever the manager puts, he feels that that's the right team to go and win the game.

"I think it was against Everton, I didn't start, Bernardo didn't start and Kevin didn't start. OK, that's what he felt was the team to go on and win the game, sometimes your subs make impacts and we came on and made an impact.

"But as I say, we've got to trust in him because everything that we've done over the last number of years has been in large part due to him and his decisions. When he gets it right, people are like, 'OK, they've been fantastic', but when things don't really go our way, it's like, 'Well, could something have changed?', and I don't believe that, no."
