Man City boss Pellegrini: 'It should have gone to penalties'

Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini has stated that his side's UEFA Champions semi-finals encounter against Real Madrid should have gone to penalties.

Having put in a fairly subdued display, City were eliminated from the Champions League following a 1-0 aggregate defeat at the hands of Real, courtesy of their narrow second leg defeat at the Santiago Bernabeu on Wednesday.

City could realistically have no complaints regarding the exit, as the mustered just one shot on target in Madrid, but Pellegrini did not feel justice was done and has now stated that the tie should have gone to penalties as 'neither team deserved' to win over the two legs.

The Chilean boss said: "None of the teams deserved to win and it should have gone to penalties. We didn't see Real Madrid better than us, we were not creative enough to damage.

"Real Madrid was lucky with the goal and it was a deflection off one of our players but they didn't control the goal so none of us. The creative level for both teams was not so good.

"I think the Real Madrid defence was good but none of these two teams was able to overcome the defence of the other one, neither in Manchester or Madrid."
