Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has reviewed his tactical battle with Andre Villas-Boas for their Champions League win over Marseille.
AVB defended his approach in the aftermath of the defeat.
And Guardiola told Le Phoceen: "It is not because we are playing five at the back that we are necessarily defensive. I don't remember how many times André played five at the back, but if he did, it was because he had his reasons.
"If they were not offensive, it is also due to our performance. We saw in the second half that even with a back five, they managed to play much better. They were patient in finding the right spaces. Even with a back five, we must give credit to OM, since they managed to be more offensive in the second half. Which proves that you are not necessarily defensive with a back five."
