Man City boss Guardiola considers Phillips, Alvarez progress

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola says Kalvin Phillips is still adapting to life at the club.

The former Leeds United man has struggled for regular game time this season.

Guardiola spoke about the importance of Phillips, once he finds his best form, and also took a moment to discuss Argentina striker Julian Alvarez.

He told the club website: “Rodri is so important for us and is playing so well.

“Kalvin is adapting and we feel he needs a little bit more rhythm.

“We will see tomorrow - we need him because there are many games.

“But Rodri is so important for us, that is why [he is playing regularly]."

He added on Alvarez: “[Julian is] so quick.

“When he plays behind Erling, it means we have one more man in the box.

“He scored in both pockets - always he is there.

“We need an extra man in the 18-yard box and this helps Erling score goals too."
