Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola says former Leeds manager Marcelo Bielsa gave him a tip off about Kalvin Phillips.
Phillips joined City for £42m this summer.
Guardiola said: “Marcelo spoke about Kalvin three or four years ago. It was the first or second season when Marcelo was at Leeds. They were in the Championship and it was the first time I realised that Kalvin Phillps played for Leeds. Bielsa spoke with me and told me 'this guy is really, really good. Maybe he's not ready for Manchester City now, but one day he can play in the top, top teams.'
“Kalvin has proved that Marcelo was not wrong. He got promoted to the Premier League and played for the national team. The credit for that goes to Kalvin and Leeds. So when Fernandino decided to go to Brazil, we were looking for a holding midfielder and we thought Kalvin was perfect for us."
