Manchester City boss Sven Goran Eriksson is moving for Wigan Athletic left-back Leighton Baines.
But now it is down to City and Everton to meet the £6m valuation, something Eriksson's club can do but David Moyes is struggling, despite offering £4m plus a player.
Baines is open to either option. He is an Everton fan, but will speak to City, too. It would be a stepping stone towards the full England team if the deal turns out.
Everton will not give up without a fight and may even offer Lee Carsley as part of the deal. But City have money and a hunger for new players in time for the big kick-off.
