Mad Dog: Lallana deserves England start ahead of Man Utd's Rooney

Former QPR star Martin Allen feels Southampton skipper Adam Lallana deserves his place in the England starting XI ahead of Manchester United's Wayne Rooney.

On Lallana, Mad Dog wrote in the Daily Mail: "He plays between the lines; not in midfield but not up front. He found spaces and gaps that pulled the Danish defence into areas they did not want to go.

"With wonderful technique he went past opposition players and made openings with good crosses and good passes which had been lacking.

"If Rooney doesn't improve his game, Lallana will be ready and waiting to play in the No 10 spot for the national team that is so vitally important."
