Sunderland have made a bid for Lyon midfielder Clement Grenier.

The Sunderland Echo says Lyon say they have received a bid from the Black Cats for playmaker Grenier, placed on the transfer list by the Ligue 1 outfit at the end of last season after struggling with injuries for two years.

"At the moment, we have not had many enquiries," OL president Jean Michel Aulas told the French media.

"We had an offer from Sunderland, I do not know what the status of that is.

"There has also been an enquiry from Italy.

"He has his own destiny in his hands."
