Manchester United brass are set to hand Louis van Gaal the funds required to go after his winter transfer targets.

According to the Daily Mirror, the Red Devils boss will be given a war chest for the January transfer window as he looks to reinvigorate his squad that has failed in the first half of the season.

United are believed to be showing significant interest in Everton striker Romelu Lukaku as they attempt to solve their goalscoring issues which has seen them net just three goals in their past six Premier League outings which has coincided with their worst winless run in over two decades.

The Old Trafford outfit are also keen on Toffees centre-back John Stones, as they have been in the past, and are reportedly preparing a lucrative bid for his services.

Executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward fears United may drop further down the table in the second half of the season and has been given boardroom backing to spend up this month.
