Luton boss Edwards 'bitterly disappointed' after Villa defeat

Luton boss Rob Edwards admits defeat at home to Aston Villa was tough to take.

Luton had fought back from 2-0 thanks to goals from Tahith Chong and Carlton Morris, but fell to an 89th minute Villa winner scored by Lucas Digne.

Edwards said, "Bitterly disappointed. The goals were avoidable, all three of them, as they always are. We gave the ball away too cheaply and gave away a corner, conceded from the corner. A quick free-kick and the third goal is reminiscent of Liverpool here or elements of Arsenal here so late on.

"There was so much to like about the performance. Villa are so organised and a good team and it is not easy to score goals against them. They can hit you hard with counter-attacks or control the game. They are a very good team. I thought we dominated the second half and had an outstanding performance.

"At 2-0 down there's nothing to lose. If we are going to lose the game let's lose it our way. I think that pushed the players to have a little less fear. I think the players carried out a lot of adjustments we made from the Manchester City game well today. We did one or two things at half-time and I thought we came out and performed brilliantly. But it's tough to take right now."

On Amari'i Bell's injury, he added: "I don't know the extent of it at the moment but we can't moan about it. We can't complain, we can only keep together and find solutions.

"You can never guarantee that you will or won't be in the league next season. But if we perform like that, as we have done consistently for a long time, we give ourselves a fighting chance."
