Newcastle United attacker Peter Lovenkrands insists no-one inside the club talked up the prospect of Europe.
A fortnight ago there was bullish talk of a tilt for the Europa League, but defeats against Everton and Stoke have changed the picture somewhat.
Not that Lovenkrands or the rest of the squad were allowing themselves to get carried away.
"I don't think we were ever looking at Europe in the first place. Maybe other people were," he told the Sunday Sun.
"Our focus was always to stay in the division - that was always our goal. Finishing any higher than that was always going to be a bonus."
