Lorient president Loic Fery says Raphael Guerreiro will cost any club who are keen on him.
The 21-year-old has been heavily linked with Newcastle United recently but the Magpies would have to pay up if they were to prise the French-born Portuguese left-back away from the Stade du Moustoir.
Fery said that comparable players such as Paris Saint-Germain's Lucas Digne and Monaco's Layvin Kurzawa are believed to be worth more in the market, indicating that Lorient would not allow Guerreiro to leave for under.
"I do not understand why Raphael would supposedly be worth €12m (£8.5m), when I hear that and Lucas Digne and Layvin Kurzawa are worth €25m today," he said.
"Nobody is non-transferable, but it must be for the right price."
