Arsenal defender Ben White's decision to withdraw from international football took two years to come to fruition.

White is said to have been upset with England assistant coach Steve Holland since 2022.

During the training camp ahead of the 2022 World Cup in the winter, Holland remarked about White's lack of interest in football.

Per The Telegraph, the rift between the two did not improve when coach Gareth Southgate supported Holland.

Eventually, White left the camp, with many of his teammates supporting him as well.

“People can talk about me, and I have to accept that things get said that are false about me," Southgate told reporters last week.

“For whatever reason in this role, you have to almost stomach that.

“But I'm not prepared for that to happen for a key member of my coaching team because that is not the reason Ben is unavailable for selection."
