Lomas hopes to shadow Rodgers at Liverpool

Sacked Millwall boss Steve Lomas is drawing inspiration from Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers.

Lomas will take up an invitation from his Northern Irish pal to visit Liverpool and see the secret of his success.

He told the Sunday People: "I've known Brendan for years, we were in roughly the same age group back home.

"He was a very cultured player with a great left foot and it was a shame he got a bad knee injury."

But it is the way Rodgers has come back from his own managerial adversity that inspires 40-year-old Lomas.

The former West Ham United player and Millwall boss said: "Brendan always likes to put his stamp on a team and get them playing the way he wants.

"Maybe when he went to Reading they were not ready for that. So he didn't stay long.

"Fortunately Swansea came up and that was a club that were set up for his ideas because they had Roberto Martinez before that.

"It just shows that you can take a setback and it makes you stronger.

"Look at how well things have gone for him at Liverpool. It's great to see.

"You can always learn and I'm eager to find out how he does things."
