Loanee Halford on borrowed time with Portsmouth

Portsmouth boss Steve Cotterill has admitted that he is unsure how long he will be able to keep Greg Halford on loan. The versatile Halford, and the return to fitness of Hermann Hreidarsson, has given Cotterill more options in his backline considering he was struggling to field a full side at the start of the campaign.

With the 25 year old out of favour at Wolves, however, Cotterill admitted that he was hopeful the former Sunderland full-back could stay, but would hold off talks with Wolves boss Mick McCarthy until nearer the end of the loan.

"I don't know if we will be extending Greg's loan, we haven't had that conversation yet," Cotterill told Portsmouth daily, The News.

"He has only just got here and only played three games. We will give it a couple more weeks before I give Mick McCarthy a ring.

"Now we've got Greg in, we are okay back there for cover. We are still a little bit light with Dicko (Carl Dickinson).

"If something happens with him then it brings Hermann into the equation, but does it bring him in too quick or early?

"I don't quite know the answer to that one, if I am honest. We are all right defensively, though.

"We have been very light there and now it has been absolutely supplemented by loanees."
