All three points seemed headed to Boro following Daniel Ayala's 80th minute goal, however, Birmingham kept hope when they were given a corner in the dying minutes of the contest.
Former Arsenal defender Bartley, who had missed Brum's previous three matches due to injury and suspension, was on hand to powerfully head home Chris Burke's corner to rescue a point for the Midlands club.
Speaking to the Birmingham Mail post match, City manager Lee Clark was full of praise of Bartley's performance.
"You can see, he's got everything. He's a very good athlete, he's quick, and he can pass the ball," he said.
"The size of him and when he attacks the ball like that, it's very, very difficult for anyone to mark him because I think if he heads them and the ball they will all go in the net together."
