LOAN WATCH: Chelsea's van Ginkel to spend time on AC Milan sidelines

AC Milan have confirmed that Marco van Ginkel has sustained ligament damage to his ankle.

The 21-year old Dutch winger, who is on a season-long loan from Chelsea, was injured in Tuesday night's 2-2 Serie A draw with Empoli which was his first appearance for the Italian club.

In the wake of the match, Milan released a statement confirming that van Ginkel has indeed suffered a serious ankle injury but are unsure of just how long he will be out of action for.

"AC Milan would like to communicate that in the game against Empoli, Marco van Ginkel sprained his right ankle and has suffered some ligament damage," read the Rossoneri's statement.

"At this stage [it is] unclear how long he will be out for."

Van Ginkel spent most of last season on the sidelines at Chelsea after tearing his anterior cruciate ligament in September last year.
