Dirk Kuyt has scoffed at reports linking Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrard with money-bags Manchester City.

City's new owners have evidently included Gerrard on their wish-list, but Kuyt could hardly have been more dismissive as he considered the prospect of Liverpool's skipper being swayed by the fortunes on offer.

"I can't imagine any Liverpool player would go to Manchester City because we're a much bigger club," he said. "Stevie is not only a great player, he is Liverpool. It would be very difficult to buy him because he would be a lot of money and I just don't think he would leave his home club for City."
