Liverpool's Gerrard puts Premiership title ahead of Champions League

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard admits winning the Premiership title is their main objective this season.

Gerrard told the News of the World: "From my point of view, I think we have got to prioritise the Premier League this season.

"It is the medal I haven't got and it is the one trophy that the fans are desperate for as well.

"The Champions League is still a big enough tournament but I think we need to target certain competitions.

"That is not to say we have to put out weakened sides in the Champions League because if we didn't win the Premier League but won in Europe it would still be viewed as a successful season.

"But as far as I am concerned winning the Premier League is the most important thing to go for this season."

Gerrard says he is feeling no ill-effects from the fractured toe which threatened to keep him out of England's recent double header.

He added: "I needed to play in those England games and considering I had only trained for two days beforehand, I did well to get through them. Now, I think I'm going to get a lot stronger and a lot better."
