20-year old midfielder Jay Spearing is on the verge of signing a new deal with Liverpool.

Spearing's second-half performance in the Champions League win over Real Madrid last week showed his potential and it is understood manager Rafael Benitez is keen to secure him long-term.

Spearing captained the Liverpool U18 to the FA Youth Cup in 2007.
