Liverpool winger Xherdan Shaqiri out of Switzerland squad

Liverpool winger Xherdan Shaqiri is out of Switzerland's squad due to injury.

The Mirror says Shaqiri has been ruled out of Switzerland's UEFA European Championship qualifiers against Georgia and Denmark with a groin injury.

Shaqiri has not featured for Liverpool since the goalless draw with Manchester United at Old Trafford last month, and was an unused substitute during the win over Fulham on Sunday.

He joined up with his international colleagues on Monday but did not train, instead undergoing a medical examination at a hospital in Zurich.

Those tests subsequently revealed an inflammation in Shaqiri's groin which will rule him out of the two matches. Switzerland coach Vladimir Petkovic will call up a replacement on Tuesday.
