Liverpool veteran Lucas Leiva is a target for Newcastle United boss Rafa Benitez.

The Evening Chronicle says Benitez will sit down with his board to discuss a possible deal for Liverpool's Lucas.

Lucas is supposedly available at the right price this summer, although Liverpool appear happy to keep him.

But Benitez wants to the reunited with the midfielder and will seek permission from the Toon board to go after the Brazilian.

Newcastle are also interested in Manchester United centre-back Chris Smalling.
